The IDEA unit is organizing a round table devoted to the question of ableism, a crucial and often neglected subject in contemporary debates on social inequalities. This dialogue will take place on November 12, 2024 at the Mazet center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This will be an opportunity to explore in depth the power dynamics and prejudices that influence the representations of people with disabilities.
For this event, we have the honor of welcoming three renowned speakers, each bringing a unique and enlightening perspective on ableism:
Pierre-Yves Baudot: Sociologist and teacher at Paris Dauphine-PSL University, he is a specialist in social dynamics and discrimination, particularly in the field of disability. His research questions the way in which social norms construct bodily and psychological hierarchies, thus reinforcing inequalities.
Adrien Primerano: Sociologist at EHESS, his work focuses on the study of the mechanisms of exclusion and marginalization of autistic people, particularly at the intersection of gender and disability. His approach combines the issues of autism and gender inequalities. It also questions the role of media representation and the place of neurodivergent people in society.
Charlotte Puiseux: Philosopher and activist, she is the author of “De Flesh et de Fer. Living and struggling in an ableist society.” She works on issues of ableism, disability and disability and has been campaigning for years in anti-capitalist, feminist and queer/crip circles. This round table aims to shed light on the way in which ableism, as a mechanism of domination, structures not only social relations, but also politics, economics, and cultural norms.
The speakers will highlight the links between ableism and other forms of intersectional discrimination, showing that these oppressions are often intertwined: gender, social class, race and disability intersect to produce multiple experiences of injustice. We hope to see many of you participating in this debate and contributing to the construction of a more equitable society. We look forward to seeing you for this event.
Accessible by velotype, the conference is open to all. Do not hesitate to contact us for other arrangements.
