Women in astronomy and astrophysics

Séminaire Observatoire de Paris

Mathilde Mâlin, a PhD student at the Laboratoire d'études spatiales et d'instrumentation en astrophysique (LESIA, Observatoire de Paris - PSL) will lead a scientific culture seminar entitled "Women in astronomy and astrophysics" on February 11 on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Women have always taken part in the research in astronomy and astrophysics and yet are not as popular as their male counterparts and they yielded fewer awards for their work.
On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we will honor women astronomers and astrophysicists of the last centuries; we will talk about their work and their discoveries and about the reasons why they are not as renowned in the general public.
In 2022, women account for less than 30% of researchers. What are the obstacles they encounter when they wish to pursue a scientific career? What solutions exist to promote gender equality within the community?
