Columbia University
Founded in 1754 and a member of the prestigious Ivy League, Columbia University is a longstanding partner of several PSL institutions and is a natural partner of PSL in several fields, including history, philosophy, archeology, musicology, literature, social science, African studies, and astrophysics.
In October 2016, Columbia University and PSL signed an agreement aimed at fostering and supporting collaborative research relationships between the two institutions, through research seminars, conferences and workshops, and exchanges of researchers, faculty and students.
The very first call for proposals for Columbia-PSL cooperation led to six initial projects in late 2016 and 2017.
A second call for proposals will soon be issued.
Current PSL-Columbia projects
Norms, Beliefs and Truths seminars (December 6-15, 2016). As part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the philosophy departments at Columbia and PSL, work at these seminars centered on some of the most basic problem sets in knowledge theory, related to the nature of beliefs and the relationships between beliefs and knowledge, truth, and epistemic norms.
The Classics series held its first seminar in Paris from May 6-7, 2017, around the theme: “How to read: objects, images, texts.” The full series will include, in addition to two seminars in Paris and New York, an opportunity for doctoral students at both schools to gather in Paris and work together on “Images, clothing, and social order in Antiquity.” : PSL-Columbia Exchange in Classics: "Ways of reading, ways of seeing", at Columbia University.
