PSL Voices | Do you know about these services offered for PSL students?

Published April 16, 2024

Housing, health, Welcome Desk, athletics, music, culture, and more! PSL provides a wide range of largely free services to help you make the most of your student experience. Jade shares her experience and gives you the lowdown on three of these services.

PSL is much more than three letters. Let’s explore just some of what it has to offer (and I also recommend reading  Charlotte’s article if you want to better understand this acronym). It’s probably no secret to you that PSL is a prestigious university. But do you know about the services it offers for its students? Because even if we spend most of our student life learning, it’s important to recharge our batteries in our free time!

The PSL Welcome Desk for international students
I don’t know where you come from, whether you’re new to PSL, or whether you speak French. But, if you’ve just arrived in Paris, you may feel a little lost or worried? You probably dream of exploring Paris like a local, but would rather do it with someone else ? If so, the Welcome Desk will welcome you with open arms! You can use their Meet & Greet service from the moment you arrive. Volunteer PSL students come and pick you up at the airport or train station and help you settle into life in Paris. This service is part of PSL’s (matching a PSL student with an international student).

And if you want to step up your French language learning, what better way to do so than the , a language exchange program organized between PSL students and newly arrived international students to meet and perfect your French (or any other language).

If you’re still not convinced, Sonakshi, an ENS-PSL alumna may do a better job than I can.

Qare, PSL’s free health service
Got a headache after all those hours spent studying for exams or need a diagnosis for muscle pain that’s been bothering you for a while? Make an appointment with Qare !

Qare is a completely free teleconsultation service that allows you to make an appointment with a general practitioner or specialist at any time. That’s right, at any time! And in such a highly populated city like Paris, where it takes weeks to get an appointment with a specialist, Qare can save your life!  As Alexandre, a PSL CPES alumni explains: “The best part is that you can get an appointment in less than 20 minutes, even on the weekend!” Thirty specialists are available 7 days a week, from September to March. Since student life is not only about studying, eating and sleeping,  this service can help you and keep you healthy physically and mentally.

PSL University libraries
In addition to being quiet places to study, the University’s many libraries may have the book you need for your thesis or your favorite magazine that costs too much to subscribe to. It may not be the “sexiest” service PSL offers, but believe me, you can quickly become a library addict and adopt the term “BU-ter” (since university libraries are abbreviated as “BU” in French). I’m a perfect example! Being surrounded by students when I’m studying motivates me to concentrate, and coffee breaks with classmates give you the boost you need, which you may not have at home. You’ll also use this service when you need a space for group work. Rooms are available for reservation !

And if you’re enrolled as a Master’s student at Dauphine-PSL like me, you’ll also be lucky enough to have access to a university library reserved for Master’s and PhD students. Who said the VIP status was only for nightclubs?
