In the wake of the measures announced on Thursday, March 12, by French President Emmanuel Macron, PSL President Alain Fuchs decided to close the university and activate the business continuity plan. PSL University wants you to know about steps you should take and preventive measures to help you avoid becoming infected and spreading the virus.

PSL University is closely monitoring the course of the epidemic in conjunction with the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI). In order to anticipate needs as effectively as possible, monitoring units have been set up within each of PSL’s component academic institutions. Those units are in touch with every PSL community and are responsible for implementing the MESRI’s directives and coordinating the crisis management network and business continuity plan within the university.

This page will be updated on a regular basis to reflect the latest information we have, and will tell you about resources currently in place. PSL’s component schools will also be providing detailed information on their respective websites:

Here’s a reminder of some simple steps for protecting your health and the health of those around you:

Wash your hands frequently.

Cough or sneeze into your elbow; use disposable tissues.

Don’t shake hands when greeting others, and avoid hugging.

If you develop symptoms that suggest COVID-19 (fever, cough), stay at home and call a physician (general practitioner or primary-care physician, or the 24-hour health care number for your region). If your symptoms worsen and you have difficulty breathing or signs of choking, call the SAMU-Centre 15 (emergency medical service).

Stay home if you are ill.

Wear a mask only if you are showing symptoms or you are clearly ill.

How can I attend CPES courses or classes offered by PSL-Pépite?

The buildings are currently closed to students and faculty. Each vice president will be taking the necessary steps to coordinate remote instruction as effectively as possible, and will notify CPES and PSL-Pépite students of those arrangements by email.

Can I access online libraries to continue my research remotely?

PSL’s knowledge portal, PSL-Explore, offers wide-ranging access to PSL’s library of documents and museum resources.  The PSL catalog contains more than 6 million entries, and more than a million of those provide access to the complete text, deriving from 42 metadata sets from 26 local and national systems.

 

What is the status of projects abroad?

All non-essential projects have been postponed to a later date. If you need help, the will be able to answer your questions.

If you are a French national and you’re getting ready to leave for a project abroad, register at to ensure you can be monitored and repatriated if necessary, among other services.

What about masks and alcohol-based sanitizers?

Currently, wearing a mask is not recommended except for health care personnel and those who are ill and have been advised to wear one.
Widespread distribution of alcohol-based sanitizers is not currently envisaged. Regular handwashing with soap and water is an effective barrier to spreading the virus.

 

 

Can I attend or participate in a university event, symposium, lecture, etc.?

For safety reasons, all scheduled events have been canceled or postponed to a later date.

Whom should I contact at my school if I develop symptoms?

University employees and students who show symptoms (fever, cough) should first contact a physician. Do not contact the SAMU-Centre 15 emergency medical service unless your symptoms worsen (difficulty breathing, signs of choking). If you have proven symptoms, you should notify PSL personnel.

  • If you are a CPES student you should notify the CPES teaching staff by email. Note that if you reside in the CIUP, you should also notify the reception desk for your residential building.
  • If you are a doctoral student under contract in a PSL component school, you should follow the rules for the research unit with which you are affiliated.  Your direct supervisor will notify the school, and if your employer is different from the institution where you are enrolled, don’t forget to notify your employer’s HR department as well.
  • If you are an employee of the foundation or PSL University (joint administrative departments), you should email your HR department, which will notify the crisis unit.
  • If you are a student in a degree program (Bachelors, Master’s, institutional diplomas, etc.) you need to notify the program directors via email. They will inform the crisis unit for your school and also the PSL crisis unit.
  • If you are an instructor, researcher or employee at one of PSL’s component schools, you should email your HR department, which will notify your institution’s crisis unit.

What should I do if I am self-isolating for two weeks?
  • Take your temperature twice a day.
  • Limit your social contact and your interaction with those who are vulnerable (pregnant women, the elderly, the ill).
  • Avoid going to places where crowds gather: the cinema, restaurants, etc.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Monitor the onset of any symptoms of respiratory infection (cough, difficulty breathing, etc.).
  • If you develop symptoms that suggest COVID-19 (fever, cough), stay at home and call a physician (general practitioner or primary-care physician, or the 24-hour health care number for your region). If your symptoms worsen and you have difficulty breathing or signs of choking, call the SAMU-Centre 15 (emergency medical service).
