At the interface between science and art: 10 years of research and creation in an exhibition at the Gaîté Lyrique
The SACRe (Sciences, Art, Creation, Research) doctoral program promoting research & creation is celebrating its 10th anniversary. From November 17 to 19, ̳ is marking the occasion at the Gaîté Lyrique, with a “Pop-up Festival”.
Projects embracing arts and sciences
For the first time, the SACRe Festival will bring together some forty young artist-researchers from the major schools that make up this program: the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique-PSL, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, the École des Arts Décoratifs, the Fémis, the Beaux-Arts de Paris and the École Normale Supérieure – PSL.
Over three days, the SACRe Festival will put on a selection of multidisciplinary artistic projects combining the visual arts, design, musical composition, stage direction, cinema, as well as art history and theory.
The program will include encounters, performances, radio broadcasts, film projections and concerts. It will reveal work produced by a generation of PhD students, all trained in this program, hinting at individual investigative approaches, but also at a community that questions the state of our world.
Around forty artists exhibited in an iconic cultural venue
Projects by the SACRe program artists & researchers are displayed in several spaces at the Gaîté Lyrique:
- The Auditorium
A program of films (dramas, documentaries, experimental forms) by SACRe filmmakers and researchers will be screened non-stop throughout the festival.
- The Exhibition Space
Some 20 art works will be on public display for the first time. The exhibition will be interspersed with theatrical, musical and literary performances and interactive presentations of works given by artist-researchers.
- The Forum & Podcast Studio
The festival also incorporates a program of encounters between past and present doctoral students, as well as participants from the SACRe research community, in the form of themed round tables.
The podcast studio will broadcast programs by Radio SACRe. Also in the podcast studio, the “Chuchoter ma these” project will provide an intimate space for PhD students to share their research-creation study path and their SACRe program experiences.
- The Soundproof Room
In this acoustic and visual space, visitors will be able to listen to pieces of audio composed by the program’s musicians and actors.
SACRe: a pioneering research-creation program at ̳ celebrates 10 years

This pioneering doctoral program has resulted in 65 theses at the interface between art and science. Many of these have received awards in France or abroad. Some have also led to the filing of patents and others have become celebrated artistic residencies.
Over the last ten years, SACRe has assembled a community of 140 artists & researchers in its research-creation laboratory. Another 65 theses are ongoing, questioning in particular upheavals in the world and reflecting a commitment to research through practice.
The SACRe Festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture and sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
