Report submitted on the creation of an Institute for Republican Studies

This morning, Olivier Christin, professor at Université de Neuchâtel and director of studies at École Pratique des Hautes Études, presented to the French president his plan to create a European institute for republican studies. In attendance were Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, Minister for National Education, Higher Education, and Research; and Thierry Mandon, Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research.

The Institute will be sponsored by PSL (Paris Sciences & Lettres) and help refresh research in the field by mobilizing international specialists and young researchers in philosophy, history, law, and political sociology.

It will also produce materials to help implement France’s new ‘moral and civic education’ (EMC).
