The study of biological systems now offers the ambition of creating artificial forms of living systems.
The ENLife Major Programme, or Engineering Life, will focus on a detailed understanding of the mechanisms that characterise living systems. The team will then focus on the control and engineering of these systems.
The aim? To create new artificial biological systems whose properties can be chosen: whether synthetic cells, artificial tissues and organoids, or other forms inspired by living systems.
The main lines of research
- Control and programming of biologically active matter
- Emergence of spatial and temporal organisation in active matter
- Information processing and dynamics of active matter
- Directed evolution of living systems
