The FAN Major Programme (Les Fabriques de l'Antique: Construire et représenter les temps anciens) aims to analyse the formation of collective identities, cultural memories and regimes of historicity in ancient societies, across all cultural areas and historical periods. By structuring a hitherto fragmented body of research, it aims to provide a better understanding of the constructions and representations of antiquity.
The main areas of research
- The construction of time and what is at stake: analysis of the processes of periodisation and regimes of historicity.
- The construction and representation of antiquity: study of the way in which antiquity is perceived, both by ancient societies themselves and by modern and contemporary societies.
- The linguistic shaping of the world: exploration of languages and writing systems as historical objects.
