Data Science Program: PSL University a leader in AI and data sciences
²ÝÁñÂÛ̳ is a European and international leader in artificial intelligence and data science. Thanks to its research teams, it offers innovative training opportunities that extend to the many disciplines revolutionized by AI.
The production and collection of vast amounts of data, combined with advances in storage, analysis, and processing capacities, have opened up unprecedented scientific perspectives across numerous disciplines, such as life sciences, cognitive sciences, astrophysics, and quantitative sociology.
The DATA programme brings together all the educational opportunities in AI and at the intersections of other scientific disciplines within PSL University, offered in various formats (dedicated courses, intensive weeks, etc.), and is designed for all audiences: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, professionals, and academic staff.

Innovative Programmes at the Intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Other Fields
In addition to its core disciplines in AI (mathematics and computer science), PSL University is developing innovative programmes at the intersection of artificial intelligence and other fields (humanities, health, cognitive sciences), thereby providing avenues to fully harness the potential of data science.
For students majoring in other subjects
If you are following a master's degree in another subject than mathematics and computer science, and if you want to include AI in your curriculum, the university-wide Data Science program includes a two-step training:
- Two-week intensive preparation in order to learn the basics of AI and to equip you with enough background to follow several MASH and IASD Masters' courses
- Intensive weeks on AI at the interfaces
Two pre-sessional weeks are offered. These serve as mandatory prerequisites for the certificate (unless the student can demonstrate equivalent prior learning in their previous studies).
- Week 1 – Mathematical and Computing Fundamentals (3 ECTS) | The mathematical and computing foundations for data science. This week is delivered asynchronously.
- Week 2 – Machine Learning and Databases (3 ECTS) | This week is delivered in person.
The 2024 Programme:
- Week 1 – Mathematical and Computing Fundamentals (3 ECTS): Available on the Moodle platform from mid-August 2024. Further information will be provided.
Registration deadline : Friday, 19 July 2024, 12:00 PM.
- Week 2 – Machine Learning and Databases (3 ECTS): This week will take place in person from Wednesday, 28 August to Tuesday, 3 September 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM at L'Estrapade, 16 bis rue de l'Estrapade, 75005 Paris.
Registration deadline: Friday, 19 July 2024, 12:00 PM.
2024 Assessment:
Separate assessments will be conducted for the two weeks:
- Week 1: 05/09/2024, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM online.
- Week 2: 06/09/2024, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM online.
The DATA Intensive Weeks are PSL Weeks that offer a scientific and technical immersion in AI at the intersection of another discipline. 2 ECTS credits are awarded upon completion of each week.
The detailed programme and modalities are outlined on the PSL Weeks website.

COFUND: Artificial Intelligence for the Sciences (AI4theSciences)
Artificial Intelligence for the Sciences (AI4theSciences) is a co-funded programme offering 26 doctoral scholarships, launched by PSL in 2020 for a duration of six years. It is supported by the highly selective European research funding programme Horizon 2020 (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions-COFUND), which co-finances these scholarships.
Resolutely international in scope, this unique and structuring project aims to create a research community comprising multiple laboratories and institutions within PSL, joined by approximately ten private and public partners. AI4theSciences is one of PSL's initiatives that contributes to strengthening PSL’s research on a critical issue of our century. It benefits from a particularly useful and evolving ecosystem for the doctoral candidates in the programme and, more broadly, for the PSL research community.
All disciplines are eligible for co-funding (e.g., physics, chemistry, history, economics) provided that the doctoral research involves techniques in artificial intelligence or big data processing. In addition to discipline-specific training for each doctoral candidate, a dedicated programme of training and events will be established, including initial training on AI/big data, seminars, and conferences. Each doctoral candidate will benefit from dual supervision, comprising a PSL thesis supervisor who is a specialist in their field, and a co-supervisor who is an expert in artificial intelligence or big data techniques (potentially from a laboratory outside PSL or a private partner).
Launched in 2020, AI4theSciences is planned for a duration of six years, with three doctoral intakes in September 2021, September 2022, and October 2023.
