Up 8 places, PSL maintains its position in the top 50 of the ARWU 2024 Shanghai ranking.

The Academic Ranking of World University (ARWU, also known as the Shanghai ranking) ranks 1,000 higher education and research establishments among the 20,000 worldwide (EUA estimate).

It is based on 6 weighted criteria:

• number of Nobel Prize & Fields Medal alumni,
• the number of Nobel Prize and Fields Medal-winning professors,
• number of highly cited researchers,
• number of articles published in Nature and Science,
• number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index, as well as
• the academic performance of professors (assessed by taking the previous 5 indicators divided by the number of tenured professors).

For the 2024 edition, French establishments have progressed and reached positions unseen since the creation of the ranking: 25 French universities are ranked, including 3 among the top 50 universities (Université Paris Saclay, 12th, ������̳ 33rd, Sorbonne Université 41st).
